Iceland is always know as a place to go in winter , this statement is partially true when it comes to Northern Lights else it is partially false. There is a lot of things to do and see in spring in Iceland. We traveled in the month of April which is one such time. No other country has been blessed more abundantly than Iceland's geography. This is the land of spurty geysers, ancient volcanoes active and inactive, rare animals , birds and here is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates collide which indeed results in some of the very beautiful mountain ranges . With all these to see your eyes will be fully busy once you reach Reykjavik , capital of Iceland. There one more reasons for GOT (Game of Thrones) fans to travel here , most of the seasons are shot in Iceland.

We have traveled to Iceland on a Saturday morning, thinking of spending the weekend there. We had the direct flight from Copenhagen to Reykjavik (Keflavik airport). This airport is a bit far from city but we will be getting airport shuttle buses . These buses will even drop you at some of the famous hotels . The time you step out of the airport itself is very beautiful , you can see boundaries created by mountains and the very blue sky. You will of course stand in front of airport and enjoy for a while before entering the bus. The travel from airport to city is also not that bad. Though we were tired after the journey , we dint feel like closing our eyes and sleep , the views out of the window was good. The weather was a bit drizzling in Reykjavik but it was good to walk around in that climate. We had checked in the hotel and took rest for a while and we decided to explore the city by foot. There are many places to see around in Reykjavik city. The major sight seeing locations are the cathedral.Harpa (Opera), Perlan,The sun Voyager, Hofdi, Videy island, Old Viking center etc. All these places you can walk around and see withing a day .

If it was a winter time then we could have spend our night time hunting for the Northern Lights. Since we went to Iceland during spring , we went to enjoy the nightlife of Iceland along with some shopping and tasting the real Iceland flavors.
Sunday was very warm and good weather without any rains and drizzling. We had taken two tour packages for the day. Forenoon we started the 'Journey towards the Center of Earth'. the lava tunnel in Iceland. We can go inside the lava tunnel , which has died long before and see the wonders the magma has created while it was flowing out of the volcano.
It is a must see place in Iceland . There are different tour operators in Iceland and they provide lot of tour plans . If you have a very limited time then to choose the best combo is the most difficult part. The second half of the day we had taken the Golden circle route.
It is a popular tourist route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometres looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. It is the area that contains most tours and travel-related activities in Iceland . The major spots on the way are the Geysir - the natural geysir of Iceland, the Gulfoss waterfalls- where beauty meeting our eyes and Thingviller National park - one of the major GOT location and where two continents meet.and some others which depends upon the tour coordinator and the package you have booked. The Golden circle will be a long duration one as we have to step out of Reykjavik and go far. If you are coming before 6 in the evening then you can also book a whale watching tour where a boat will take you the sea and let you see the whales taking sunbath or you can also go to the Blue Lagoon , it is a natural spa and a beautiful place where you must go when in Iceland. You can easily reach Blue Lagoon by the airport shuttle buses. This place lies between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik city.
Also you can try for the northern light expedition , if you couldn't see it the day before. Basically if the tour operator with whom you have booked with the northern light expedition will give you another free trip if you are not lucky on the first day.
There are so many places and wonders to see around in Iceland like the glacier cave, other waterfalls etc and since we had planned for the return flight on Monday morning ,with all heavy heart we bid bye to the beautiful Scandinavian county promising her that we will come back again to walk through the wonders she has to show us.
Tips before you plan to Iceland
Plan for a week trip to Iceland else atleast four days , else you wont be able to see every other place which is different from one another and different from other places in the world
The best time is to travel in winter as you will be able to see the Northern Lights. Also there are no trips starting after 6 in the evening so that you feel like your evening are wasted if you are on a short trip.
Carry some Icelandic Krona with you
The way to travel around is take a car and drive through the borders of Iceland , in some places you can take a cycle ride or even horse ride.
It will be great if you have a local connection so you can have google's help always.
Carry the best camera you have
